Infinity Son

By Adam Silvera

Just like the cover of this novel and the delicious cup of coffee this story will warm your soul. I support this book for the beautiful content, I feel that the author of this book stated it perfectly when he wrote the “Dear Reader” page… “The magic I found myself writing about when I was eighteen, in the very first version of this story- then titled The Celestial Cycle- where the leads were straight, because I thought there was no way this story would’ve been published otherwise… I discovered how wrong I was when I read Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones… This was so validating that it not only helped me come out months after reading that series but it inspired me to tell stories where I too could save the world as my truest self… One where a queer kid is powerful and carries the weight of the world and falls for a shapeshifting boy”. We NEED more novels like this one, that show everyone that LGBTQ content belongs will “regular” fiction books that it shouldn’t have a small corner in the back of the store, we need to make this content main stream to show the next generation that all the feels that they are feeling is right and okay.

This thrilling fantasy focuses on two brothers thrown into a war that has been generations in the making, between those who were born with power and those who took it to feel powerful. One brother (Emil) is the chosen one. The other (Brighton) has to make a choice. Who will live forever and who will die trying?

I felt that this was great book in terms of making process in getting LGBTQ into main stream fiction. I did feel that there was some plot holes and felt that the story wasn’t flushed out as much to make the storyline run smoothly. I felt like some areas the story was rushed and some areas where the story took a long time to tell, some areas in the novel I was confused what was happening and felt the ending was a little off. Overall, I felt that this novel was good, I hope that this book can help someone who felt that if your in the LGBTQ community that you have to be the villain, but thats not true… I hope that you can see that your much stronger and you are always the Hero.

Thank you to HarperCollinsCanada for the ARC for the honest review.

  1. Nice perspective to look at this book from! I just bought it the other day and I have heard some very mixed reviews but I’m looking forward to giving it a try. I do feel like LGBTQ+ and other diverse books are becoming much more common or mainstream now. Or maybe it’s being part of the book community that makes me feel that? But either way, I’m glad of the direction it’s going 🙂
